Holiday Web Spend Topping 2006 So Far
NEW YORK, NY – US consumers spent more than $14 billion online during the first 32 days of the holiday shopping season, according to comScore.
That is up 17% compared with the same period for 2006.
"This most recent week started strong as consumers spent $733 million on Cyber Monday, which was followed by three consecutive days where spending surpassed $700 million," said comScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni, in a statement.
"However, strong sales subsided towards the end of the week, eventually resulting in a 17% gain versus the corresponding time period last year, in line with the growth rates w've experienced for the season-to-date," Mr. Fulgoni said.
Video games, consoles & accessories are the top-selling category, up 145% in November versus the same period in 2006.
Other hot sales categories include furniture, appliances & equipment, up 45%, and sports & fitness, up 30%.
