Shopping Experience to Expand in Corpus Christi
$60 Million Outlet Center to Open in 2009
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Corpus Christi, Texas will be the site for the new $60 million retail outlet center, scheduled to open fall 2009. The Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay, which will be built on 50 acres of land – with up to 80 nationally and internationally brand name retail stores in phase one, will be developed by Dolphin Ventures I, LLC.
The develop company consists of three partners with over 35 years of outlet center development, leasing and management experience with approximately 45 outlet centers worldwide. The project in Corpus Christi is the culmination of years of collaboration and a shared goal to create an outlet project in an under-served market.
"The Outlets of Corpus Christi Bay represents an opportunity for us to bring the best of our knowledge and experience to one 'perfect' development project," stated Lisa Wagner, development expert with Dolphin Ventures I, LLC.
Keith Arnold, CEO/President of the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau stated, "The high quality shopping experience will become the 'hook' for pulling people into our area, and the beaches, attractions, nature tourism opportunities, restaurants and sports throughout the Coastal Bend will sell them on staying and exploring the entire destination."
The new pedestrian-friendly, accessible, village-style design will feature a classic Southwestern architecture elements with four water features, a large food court and visitor center. The facility will offer direct savings to the public year round at prices averaging 40 percent off retail price.
Arnold added, "There is no doubt that the Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay will be an attraction that will afford Corpus Christi and all of Nueces County the opportunity to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to our region from the I-77 corridor."
The Outlets at Corpus Christi Bay is located at the intersection of Highway 77 and Highway 44, adjacent to the new Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds in nearby Robstown, Texas. The outlet center is placed at the gateway, where hundreds of thousands of travelers are in route to and from the valley and San Antonio, Texas.
"Clearly, enhanced shopping draws new visitors in general, and should be a major catalyst for recovering lost tourism business from Monterey and border towns in Mexico. Conventions, sports tournaments and motorcoach tour groups always rank excellent shopping as a priority and the new outlet center will be an outstanding addition to our list of activities for each of these areas, as well," stated Arnold.
