What's Hot in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, MO – Now open: Kansas City’s new downtown!
The Kansas City Power & Light District has re-energized eight blocks in downtown KC with lively restaurants bars and nightclubs, offering everything from fine dining to line dancing. Sixteen establishments are currently open, and the district will offer more than 40 when it’s completed this year. One block features a ring of restaurants and nightclubs surrounding a covered outdoor courtyard. The KC Live! stage offers live entertainment more than 150 days per year.
KC’s First “Green” Hotel
The Quarterage Hotel has been renamed the Q Hotel & Spa and renovated into Kansas City’s “green” hotel, with a 38-point eco-plan, bike rentals and a new spa, offering massage, manicure and pedicure services.
And the James Beard nominee is…
For the second year in a row, the James Beard Foundation has nominated Colby Garrelts of Bluestem for its “Best Chef: Midwest” award. If Garrelts wins at the awards gala in New York on June 8, he joins a growing group of James Beard award-winning chefs from Kansas City. Celina Tio from the American Restaurant won in 2007, and Michael Smith and Debbie Gold won in 1999 while at the American Restaurant. Michael Smith now operates his namesake restaurant in the Crossroads Arts District.
