SHARK Spotted at South Street Seaport

NEW YORK, NY – A SHARK has been seen crashing through the waves around South Street Seaport’s Pier 16 - but this one has everyone scrambling to get IN the water. Starting this May, the New York Harbor turns into a water park as Circle Line Downtown's SHARK – the most electrifying of its popular cruises – returns for the 2008 season.

SHARK is the speedboat thrill ride that zips around downtown landmarks, screaming through upper New York Bay and the East River at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. The 70-foot-long SHARK captures the energy and excitement of New York City in a 30-minute water ride as SHARK ploughs through showers of waves, allowing up to 140 adventurous guests to take in dazzling views of the Statue of Liberty Brooklyn Bridge, Ellis Island, and the New York skyline, as well as an up-close view of the spectacular special installation, Olafur Eliasson’s “The New York City Waterfalls.”

The amusement begins even before you get on board as you encounter SHARKIE, our loveable harbor-loving mascot who makes his home on Pier 16. Available for photos and always entertaining, SHARKIE is the perfect ambassador for the fun that awaits. Once on board, SHARK’s fun and knowledgeable Captains emcee the ride amidst a backdrop of classic summertime songs as it zips through the water – making for an exciting way to enjoy landmarks and the scenic beauty of Manhattan’s waterways.

Besides being the exclusive provider of Official daily Water Tours for “The New York City Waterfalls,” Circle Line Downtown’s SHARK Speedboat Thrill Rides will also include views of the exhibit from July to mid-October. Artist Olafur Eliasson’s installation of four towering waterfalls along the shores of Brooklyn, Manhattan and Governors Island is one of the year’s most highly anticipated art attractions – and ONLY Circle Line Downtown will introduce this spectacular achievement to scores of visitors the way the artist and its presenters intended.

SHARK season began Saturday, May 3, departing from South Street Seaport, Pier 16.  The daily summer schedule runs from June 1 through September 8, when SHARK sails every hour on the hour from noon – 7pm. During May and from September 9 through October 15, SHARK operates weekends only from noon to 5pm on the hour (weather permitting).
