Yellowstone Reports Record Number of Visitors in July
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, WY – A record number of people visited Yellowstone National Park in July.
America's first national park hosted more than 900,500 people last month, up more than 11% from July 2008 and 6% higher than the previous all-time monthly record set in July 1995.
This year is on pace to set a record for visitors. More than 1.9 million people have visited Yellowstone through July, up 100,000 from the previous seven-month high in 2007.
July's numbers build on this June's record for that month of about 644,000 visitors. July is typically the peak visitation month, followed by August, June, September and May.
Park officials attribute the high numbers to relatively low gas prices and the park's affordability.
