Exploring the Sutro Baths Ruins

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – In 1894, Adolph Sutro developed the massive Sutro Baths so that as many as 10,000 people at one time could enjoy healthy, recreational and inexpensive swimming. The facility had 7 swimming pools at various temperatures and included slides, trapezes, springboards and a high dive. Today, visitors may dine at the Cliff House restaurant overlooking the ruins and the Pacific Ocean. The Cliff House and the Sutro Baths ruins are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area on the north end of Ocean Beach.
