5 Trends for North American Travel This Spring

As SojernÕs Spring and Summer Report highlighted, a great deal of North American travel planning takes place at the beginning of the year. As we firmly dive into this busy travel planning period, our latest Global Travel Insights Report updates you with the latest and greatest trends on North American travel this spring.
  • North Americans are looking for shorter breaks in spring overall, but slightly longer breaks in April. Nearly half (49%) of spring searches are for shorter breaks of 0-3 days. However, in April alone, this decreases to 32%, with the majority (46%) of searches being for trips lasting 4-7 days.

  • Those looking to travel in April are looking early in the month. The top searched departure days are April 1, 7, and 8.

  • North American travelers are consistent in their preferences for beach holidays. Miami, Cancun and Honolulu, the most searched beach destinations in our last Global Travel Insights Report, continue to dominate the top 5 in spring.

  • Orlando is the top recreational destination. With its excellent theme parks in close proximity, itÕs no wonder itÕs so popular for spring travel.

  • There is a lot of variance in springÕs long-haul destinations. The top searched destinations include destinations in Latin America (Cancun, San Juan), Europe (London, Paris) and Asia-Pacific (Bangkok).
