Allianz Global Assistance Review Finds Orlando & Cancun are the Most Popular Places to Travel this Summer

Travel insurance provider reveals this yearÕs top 10 domestic & international summer destinations
A review* of AmericansÕ summer travel plans by customers of travel insurance provider Allianz Global Assistance found that Orlando and Cancun continue to top the list as this yearÕs most popular domestic and international summer destinations.

Allianz Global Assistance reviewed nearly three million trips planned by its customers during the summer season Ð May 29, 2017 through September 4, 2017 Ð for travel between five and eight days in length.

Domestically, the results showed that travelers are planning trips to Orlando (8.64 percent) followed in popularity by Las Vegas (4.74 percent), Honolulu (4.37 percent), Los Angeles (3.65 percent), Seattle (3.37 percent), San Francisco (3.21 percent), Maui (2.91 percent), Boston (2.90 percent), Denver (2.87 percent) and Fort Lauderdale (2.57 percent).

Internationally, eight out of 10 of the top destinations are in Mexico and the Caribbean, with only London and Paris making the list for European destinations. Cancun, Mexico ranks highest (16.91 percent) followed in popularity by Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (5.27 percent); Los Cabos, Mexico (4.63 percent); Montego Bay, Jamaica (4.17 percent); San Juan, Puerto Rico (3.94 percent); Aruba Island, Aruba (3.92 percent); London, United Kingdom (3.61 percent); St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (3.36 percent); Nassau, Bahamas (3.16 percent); and Paris, France (2.58 percent).

The findings also showed that most of the planned trips to Orlando and Cancun are for groups of two or more travelers, which could be a result of more families traveling or the increasing popularity of multi-generational travel. For instance, 90 percent of trips planned to Orlando have more than one traveler, and 26 percent have four travelers, while 92 percent of trips planned to Cancun have more than one traveler, and 34 percent have two travelers.

ÒOur statistics showed that Americans are more likely to travel in groups this summer, and for those traveling with children, family travel insurance is worth considering,Ó said Daniel Durazo, director of communications for Allianz Global Assistance USA.
