Lake Tahoe Leads the Country in Snowfall, 16 More Feet and Counting

Monster storms continue to blanket Lake Tahoe ski resorts in pillows upon pillows of bottomless snow with the latest round dropping more than 10 feet of snow at upper summit elevations. These massive mega-storms have amassed more than 200" (16.6') of snow during the first twelve days of January catapulting Lake Tahoe ski resorts to lead the country in snowfall totals over the entirety of last week.

Truly a weather cycle of unprecedented proportions, many of the resorts have already crested their average snowfall totals for the entire season with the historically snowy months of February and March still ahead. Regional weather forecasters anticipate Northern California will end up setting a world record for snowfall totals as a result of these storms and the active weather pattern is set to resume the latter half of January.

"The first two weeks of January will be one for the record books," said Mike Pierce, President of Ski Lake Tahoe. "This will be an unforgettable winter for those visiting Lake Tahoe as the destination is currently boasting some of the best conditions in the entire country and the bottomless snowpack ensures skiers and snowboarders will be making turns late into spring this season."

New non-stop service began earlier this month from Love Field in Dallas supplementing the existing flights from Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport. RTIA has also added additional air service from major gateway air markets such as New York, Atlanta, Oakland, Los Angeles, Long Beach and Orange County. To showcase the new flights, Ski Lake Tahoe resorts are offering "Ski Free the Same Day You Fly" promotions for travelers who show their boarding passes at participating resorts.

Skiers and snowboarders can also take advantage of deeply discounted lodging deals at lake-wide properties ranging from slope-side convenience to lakefront luxury to Vegas-style casino resorts. For families and those on a budget, Reno casino properties offer unbeatable stay-and-ski packages starting as low as $85 per person for both lift ticket and lodging with many of these revitalized resorts located less than 25 minutes from the slopes.
