SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS Ð No visit to San Antonio is complete without a visit to The Alamo. First established in 1724 as the Spanish mission San Antonio de Valero, the building and grounds later served as a frontier outpost, military garrison, hospital, museum, general store and warehouse. Today it stands as a reminder of Texas independence and history.
