The Gateway to the West

The Gateway to the West

SAINT LOUIS, MO - Formerly known as the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, the 91-acre park became the Gateway Arch National Park in 2018. The 91-acre park, located along the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis, includes the Gateway Arch, Museum at the Gateway Arch and the Old Courthouse.

A 4-minute tram ride takes you to the top of the Gateway Arch where you can see stunning views of the Mississippi and 30 miles beyond to the east and the Old Courthouse and St. Louis to the west. Completed in 1965 celebrating the westward expansion of the United States during the 19th century and its pioneers, the Gateway Arch is the tallest man-made monument in the U.S. Following back to the base of the Arch, you can explore the Museum at the Gateway Arch. This innovative and interactive museum covers 201 years of history about the westward expansion of the United States with an emphasis on the role of St. Louis during that era. Adult tickets for the tram ride to the top are $12. Visiting the museum is free.
