A Ship Without A Sea
GRAND CANYON, AZ – The Battleship is a 5,850-foot elevation summit located in the central Grand Canyon. The name comes from its profile resembling that of a U.S. Navy battleship. The Redwall Limestone cliffs and orange-reddish slopes of “redbeds” add striking color to the formation.
Near the north entrance to the historic El Tovar hotel is a bronze plaque donated to Grand Canyon National Park by George Crosby in 1922. A scope on the locator helps visitors pinpoint the location of several of the named rock formations. The Battleship is one of those.
