A Winter Hike in the Petrified Forest

PETRIFIED FOREST, ARIZONA – The 221,390-acre Petrified Forest National Park sits between I-40 and Highway 180 near Holbrook in northeastern Arizona. Each year, about 800,000 people visit this national park to explore the colorful eroding badlands of the Painted Desert, visit the Rainbow Forest Museum, Agate House and the ruined village of Puerco Pueblo, hike the miles of trails in the Blue Mesa, Crystal Forest, see petroglyphs and the ancient trees that have turned into stone over the last 225 million years. An example of the colorful petrified wood is pictured here.
