Jardines de Alfabia in Mallorca

Jardines de Alfabia in Mallorca

MALLORCA, Spain – The hustle and bustle of the 400,000 residents of Palma, the primary city on Spain’s island province of Mallorca in the Mediterranean Sea, seem far away when you arrive at the Jardines de Alfabia – even though this outpost of serenity is only 20 miles from the city. The Jardines de Alfabia (Gardens of Alfabia) are a complex consisting of an historic house, gardens of various styles and an orchard, all in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, a 56-mile-long mountain range. The house has Roman-Andalusian roots, but you can see different influences in the various rooms and gardens: Arabic, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Roman, Rococo and even English. Europeans love Mallorca because of its beaches, but its interior holds many treasures such as the Gardens of Alfabia. Mallorca is easy to explore because it is small, less than one-third the size of Los Angeles County, California. (Photo by Tom Adkinson)
