USA Luxury Shopping Consortium Celebrates Lunar New Year with Style

The recently launched USA Luxury Shopping Consortium, a new cooperative tourism marketing program, consists of ten luxury shopping centers located throughout the nation in key travel destinations for domestic and international travelers. The destinations include Atlanta, Honolulu, Houston, Las Vegas, Newport Beach, Santa Monica, Seattle, Scottsdale and Washington DC.
Each center offers the finest in luxury brands and contemporary shops in addition to a collection of signature restaurants and cafes. Many of the USA Luxury Shopping Consortium Centers have planned special celebrations to ring in the Year of The Rooster, also known as Lunar New Year. Below is an overview of planned events and performances listed by destination from West to East Coast.

HONOLULU-Ala Moana Center

Ala Moana Center invites shoppers to celebrate Chinese New Year with three days of family friendly entertainment, including cultural performances and lion dancing. Chinese New Year is an important centuries-old tradition that is widely celebrated in the Hawaiian Islands. On Jan. 26, 27 and 28, shoppers are invited to make way for good fortune and usher in the ÒYear of the RoosterÓ with performances and special appearances.

SANTA MONICA-Santa Monica Place

On Saturday, January 28, Santa Monica Place will kick-off the Lunar New Year holiday with a celebration of the Year of the Rooster. Also known as the Spring Festival, the celebration will feature entertainment and presentations based on authentic cultural traditions such as the traditional Chinese Lion Dance, Korean Fan Dance, as well as a Chinese classical musical duo using native instruments, Stilt Walkers, a New Year's Wishing Tree (with donations going to a local charity), children's crafts, a balloon twister, Chinese Dough Art, complimentary fortune cookies and a festive photo backdrop that will be available for guests to capture the magic of the Lunar New Year Festival.

NEWPORT BEACH-Fashion Island

Join Fashion Island on Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Neiman MarcusÑBloomingdale's Courtyard, with live entertainment including: traditional Chinese dragon dancing, Korean fan dancing, Asian calligraphy artist, themed stilt walkers, live classical Chinese musical performance and lucky money envelopes containing $2 will be given to the first 500 guests at Fashion Island.

LAS VEGAS-Fashion Show

Fashion Show will usher in Chinese New Year with a special opening ceremony and ribbon cutting affair on Jan. 27 from 6-8pm in Great Hall. To commemorate the Year of the Rooster, guests are invited to partake on a journey to China and experience cultural performances by the Sichuan Song and Dance Theater Company as they take on the Runway. Guests will be able to enjoy a live authentic dragon dance and eye painting ceremony by Las Vegas Lohan School of Shaolin, followed by a ceremonial blessing of the department stores where team members will feed the dragon red envelopes to bring good luck for the year.

LAS VEGAS-Grand Canal Shoppes

Grand Canal Shoppes will kick off the Lunar New Year festivities on Jan. 28 with the signature fan dance above the waterfall near the Palazzo Resort. Performance times will be at 3:45 p.m. and at 4:30 p.m. During and after the fan dance, more than 500 envelopes will be distributed to guests. The envelopes will be filled with prizes Ð from gift cards to chocolate gold coins. Each red envelope will also be bundled with signature store incentives available at participating Grand Canal Shoppes stores and restaurants.

SCOTTSDALE-Scottsdale Fashion Square

Join Scottsdale Fashion Square on Saturday, January 21 from 11am-2pm in the Food Court as they celebrate The Year of the Rooster. China UnionPay Cardholders who spend $500 or more can receive a $25 gift card to a gourmet coffee and tea retailer.

WASHINGTON DC-Tysons Corner Center

Come to Tysons Corner Center Fashion Court, lower level near Lord & Taylor, on Sunday, January 29th from 11am-1pm and enjoy cultural performances, participate in arts and crafts that celebrate the Year of the Rooster and have fun with the whole family!

Cultural demonstrations and performances will be showcased from 11am-1pm by The Jow Ga Shaolin Institute and the Fairfax Chinese Dance Troupe. The Jow Ga Shaolin Institute promotes the study of authentic Chinese martial arts for health, fitness, emotional well-being and self-defense.
