A Stunning Thirteen-Mile River of Ice

The Nation's Oldest Mexican Restaurant
JUNEAU, ALASKA - Located about 12 miles from downtown Juneau, the 13-mile Mendenhall Glacier ends at Mendenhall Lake; both are part of the 5,815-acre Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area. The nearby visitors center was the first U.S. Forest Service visitor center built in the nation, dedicated in 1962. About 500,000 people visit the year-round center each year hoping to see the calving glacier. Nugget Fall cascades down the mountainside in the distance on the left.
