Monuments on the National Mall
WASHINGTON, DC - The National Mall and Memorial Parks are home to 80 historic structures, iconic monuments and memorials and 150+ major parks adorned with 2,000 American elms, 3,000 Japanese cherry trees, 170 flower beds, 35 ornamental pools and fountains. The open space and parklands form the perfect gathering spot for groups to enjoy being together picnicking, jogging, throwing frisbees, golfing, fishing, biking and playing sports on the 43 ball fields while learning about our nation's history.
This picture was taken from the National World War II Memorial looking toward the 555-foot Washington Monument. The grassy area surrounding the Monument is one of the popular gathering spots for groups.
