A Bird's Eye View on the Beach

A Bird's Eye View of the Beach

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Georgia – While walking on the St. Simons Pier on the largest barrier island in Georgia's Golden Isles, we saw this Great Blue Heron sitting on the pier's railing. He didn't seem to mind the many photos being taken of him as much as he was concerned about the bounty of fish being caught by nearby anglers. We assured him there were plenty more fish in the ocean below. In the background overlooking the beach is the St. Simons Lighthouse, just one of the many historic sites on St. Simons. Rebuilt in 1872 after being destroyed during the Civil War, the lighthouse is now home to the St. Simons Lighthouse Museum which traces the lighthouse's history.
