A Hike in an Ancient Forest

MILL VALLEY, CALIFORNIA - Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Muir Woods National Monument is a favorite destination for visitors to the San Francisco area. When visiting, plan to spend a few hours exploring the park. You can hike parts or all of the 6-mile trail system through the ancient forest among the towering redwood trees beside Redwood Creek on your own, attend a ranger-led program to learn about redwood ecology and cultural history or take a guided tour, as available. Note: Reservations are required for all vehicles and shuttle riders visiting Muir Woods National Monument.
