Great Places in America
FAIRBANKS, ALASKA - Known as the "Unknown First Family," the statue by Malcolm Alexander represents "the unwavering spirit of the families past, present and future who endure in this great land with pride and dignity." The impressive 18 foot-high statue stands in the center of downtown Fairbanks' Golden Heart Plaza, built in celebration of Alaska's 25th anniversary of statehood, on the banks of the Chena River. The plaza is a popular gathering spot for downtown celebrations, strung with twinkling lights in the winter and filled with flowers in the summer.
