New data from Hertz shows that spring break travel is spreading across April rather than being concentrated in a single week, with the busiest rental pickup days falling on April 3, April 10 and April 24.
The larger travel window could make trips easier by increasing vehicle availability and spreading out traveler volume.
With Thursdays and Fridays ranking as the most popular pickup days, Hertz recommends starting rentals on Wednesday or Sunday in order to find lower rates and better availability.
Hertz also revealed its top 10 most popular spring break destinations, with Orlando taking the top spot, followed by Los Angeles in second and Phoenix in third.
Tampa and Miami claimed the sixth and eighth spots, cementing Florida’s position as the most booked state for spring break travel.
Regular and small SUVs, along with vans, are the most popular choices for spring travelers. The average trip lasts about five days, making these rentals ideal for spring break.
