LA28 Reveals Venues for 2028 Olympic Soccer Matches

The men's and women's gold medal games will take place at Pasadena's Rose Bowl Stadium in July 2028

The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games has unveiled seven venues across the United States that will stage matches for the 2028 Olympic soccer tournaments.

The group stage and knockout matches will lead up to the final matches at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, which previously hosted the men’s FIFA World Cup final in 1994. The gold medal matches will be held on July 28 for the men’s tournament and July 29 for the women’s tournament.

This will mark the first time in Olympic history that there will be more women’s soccer teams than men’s. The women’s competition is expanding to 16 teams and the men’s tournament is being adjusted to 12 teams, while LA28 will also be the first Olympic Games where all team sports feature at least as many women’s teams as men’s.

“Bringing Olympic football group stage and knockout matches to stadiums across the United States means more fans will witness this global event and experience the Olympic spirit first-hand,” said Shana Ferguson, LA28 chief of sport and games delivery officer. “With the LA28 Ticket Draw for all Olympic sports on the horizon, we’re inviting global Football fans to register now for a chance to secure their tickets to history in the summer of 2028.”

The selected stadiums span the country and are split into different ‘zones’, including venues in New York; Columbus, Ohio; Nashville; St. Louis; San José; and San Diego.

The selected stadiums for LA28 are (capacity in parentheses):

  • Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California (89,702)

  • New York Stadium in the New York Zone, future home of the New York City Football Club, to be completed in 2027 (25,000)

  • Columbus Stadium in the Columbus Zone, home of the Columbus Crew (20,139)

  • Nashville Stadium in the Nashville Zone, home of Nashville Soccer Club (30,109)

  • St. Louis Stadium in the St. Louis Zone, home of the St. Louis CITY Soccer Club (22,423)

  • San José Stadium in the San José Zone, home of the San Jose Earthquakes and Bay Football Club (18,000)

  • San Diego Stadium in the San Diego Zone, home of the San Diego Football Club, San Diego Wave Football Club and San Diego State University (35,000)

Stadium Selection

In order to evaluate stadiums across the country, LA28 worked with Soccer United Marketing — the commercial arm of Major League Soccer — to ensure that the chosen venues met the highest international standards. The review process prioritized using purpose-built stadiums where possible while also assessing each stadium’s ability to host world-class competitions and its potential to engage local communities.

The future New York Stadium in New York City is the only new stadium that is being built in advance of the LA28 Games.

Given the large geographic footprint of the LA28 tournaments, organizers have promised to develop a match distribution that allows the competition to move progressively across the country from East to West as teams advance, meaning travel demands will be minimized. In addition, an extended competition window for the soccer tournaments is being considered, including increased recovery time between matches and holding preliminary matches prior to the Opening Ceremony.

The schedule for both the men’s and women’s soccer tournaments, including the dates and match distribution per stadium, will be announced before the first ticket drop this April. The official tournament draw will also take place after the LA28 Olympic qualification process has concluded.

LA28 Olympic Ticket Draw Registration Details

Registration for the LA28 Olympic Ticket Draw is open now through March 18. More information can be found on LA28’s ticketing page.

Los Angeles will join London and Paris as the only cities to host three Olympic Games, having previously done so in 1932 and 1984. It will also host its first Paralympic Games this year.
