Mother of Two People

JAMESTOWN, VIRGINIA - Created in 1957 on the banks of the James River, Historic Jamestowne provides insight into the people and events at the original site of the first permanent English settlement in America. One of the famous monuments on Jamestown Island is the statue of Pocahontas, pictured here. A peacemaker between the English and the Powhatan Indians, Pocahontas married John Rolf and chose to take the English name of Rebecca meaning “mother of two peoples.”
