On a Clear Day, You Can See Four States

BRASSTOWN BALD, GEORGIA - Taking a relatively easy 0.6-mile hike gives you this perspective atop Brasstown Bald in the Blue Ridge Mountains near the tourist town of Helen, Georgia. A mountain bald provides a 360-degree view, and the one here has Georgia under your feet and North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee toward various horizons. On a super-clear day, you may spy the skyscrapers of Atlanta 125 miles to the south. In non-pandemic times, there is a shuttle to the observation tower, but that's a cop-out for any who is physically able to make the hike and then truthfully claim having walked to the highest spot in Georgia (elevation 4,784 feet).
