Speedster Blazes Trails

Speedster Blazes Trails

HENDERSONSVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA – This cyclist isn’t challenging the lighthearted speed limit signal on the Ecusta Trail near Hendersonville, N.C., approximately 25 miles and one county line south of Asheville. A railroad line between Hendersonville and Brevard served a paper mill from 1939-2002, but the line became unneeded after the mill closed. Rails-to-trails advocates stepped in, and the first six of the trail’s 19 miles are open for cyclists, walkers, joggers and even roller skaters. A bicycle rental business called Venture Ecusta can equip an entire tour group for a ride. Those who don’t want to ride and chill out at a trailhead restaurant and brewery. (Photo by Laurie Gossy)
