Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World

The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and AECOM publish the TEA/AECOM 2018 Theme Index and Museum: The Global Attractions Attendance Report, a study of attendance at major theme parks, amusement parks, waterparks and museums worldwide. Key findings in the report are:

Major theme parks around the world showed significant growth in 2018. Attendance exceeded half a billion visits - equivalent to almost 7% of the world population - for the first time in history. Overall attendance grew from 475,767,000 in 2017 to 501,228,000 in 2018 with Walt Disney Attractions, Merlin Entertainment Group and Universal Parks and Resorts in the top 3 positions.

Visitation in North America increased by a substantial 4% year-over-year, notably higher than the 2.3% increase in 2017 and 1.2% in 2016. The year's 6+ million-visit increase was driven by the top operators - Disney, Universal and SeaWorld, while Six Flags also increased. The biggest growth was IP-driven as innovative experiences, rides and programming became strong attendance drivers, led by strong performances by the Harry Potter Worlds at Universal, the Avatar IP at Disney's Animal Kingdom and Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
